Do my spouse and I each need a separate will?

Your spouse and you both absolutely need separate individual planning. That planning may encompass basic wills, it may encompass living trusts, along with pour-over wills, but absolutely there needs to be separate planning for a husband and wife. Spouses can share many things, but an estate plan, while it should work together, is not one thing that can be shared.
